The Copse in the Rain: bloom and cloud pour on 16”x20” canvas

This painting started life as an attempt at a bloom, but the original design was not reacting properly to the cell activator I used. Since I was not getting the cells I was looking for, after stretching it like crazy to move the colors out of the center, I finally decided to swipe the cell activator over the rest of the original bloom image.

At first I was very pleased, as the cells started popping up all over, but as I stretched it out I realized that a lot of the cells on the outer portion were turning into cloud cells. Although I hadn’t planned on that particular style of a painting, I was excited to get them.

The cells completely covered the image once I stopped stretching out the paint. I found the design reminded me of sitting in the car in the rain and gazing at a copse of trees through the windshield. The cells pulled up sections of various shades of blue, pink, purple and lavender peaking through the cells surrounding the green area that reminded me so much of a solitary thicket of woods.

Since the colors are muted, the overall effect is very calming. I determined the horizontal orientation would show the copse off to best advantage and I can see this paining hanging in a bedroom or master retreat, surrounded by fabrics in the various pastel shades and in a matching green, with several live plants to enhance the air of calm.
